Optimizing Task Distribution for Heterogeneous Desktop Clusters

چکیده
A three CPU, two node cluster-based parallel multiprocessor system is developed with a Core Duo laptop and an AMD Athlon Desktop using Fedora Core 5 (smp and non-smp kernels respectively) and OSCAR. Such a system is used to execute a number of parallel programs to evaluate their performance and to optimize the number of tasks to be scheduled on laptop and Desktop respectively, depending upon their hardware configuration. Aim is to setup a Distributed parallel computer right on the Desktop, and to extend this thought of optimizing a cluster’s performance, based on its node’s hardware configurations over any large heterogeneous Cluster.

PIKACHU: How to Rebalance Load in Optimizing MapReduce On Heterogeneous Clusters
For power, cost, and pricing reasons, datacenters are evolving towards heterogeneous hardware. However, MapReduce implementations, which power a representative class of datacenter applications, were originally designed for homogeneous clusters and performed poorly on heterogeneous clusters. The natural solution, rebalancing load among the reducers running on heterogeneous nodes has been explore...
متن کاملAssessment of Clustering Methods for Predicting Permeability in a Heterogeneous Carbonate Reservoir
Permeability, the ability of rocks to flow hydrocarbons, is directly determined from core. Due to high cost associated with coring, many techniques have been suggested to predict permeability from the easy-to-obtain and frequent properties of reservoirs such as log derived porosity. This study was carried out to put clustering methods (dynamic clustering (DC), ascending hierarchical clustering ...
متن کاملOptimizing the implementation of a MANET routing protocol in a heterogeneous environment
This paper focuses on the implementation of heterogeneous Mobile Ad Hoc networks (MANET). A heterogeneous MANET is a wireless network setting without a fixed infrastructure where participating devices may be of different kind (e.g., desktop, laptop, or palmtop computers), may not share the same operating system (e.g., Linux, Windows NT, or Windows CE), and may not share the same wireless techno...
متن کاملA Reliable Multicast data Distribution Protocol based on software FEC techniques
Applications requiring the reliable distribution of data to groups of clients would be supported perfectly by reliable multicast protocols. In many cases, the problem of congestion control (a major research issue otherwise) does not exist because downlink bandwidth is \owned" or can be preallo-cated to a particular server by independent means, but the problems of insuring reliable data delivery...
متن کاملDecentralized proactive resource allocation for maximizing throughput of P2P Grid
Peer-to-peer Desktop Grids provide integrated computational resources by leveraging autonomous desktop computers located at the edge of the Internet to offer high computing power. The arbitrary arrival and serving rates of tasks on peers impedes the high throughput in large-scale P2P Grids. We propose a novel autonomous resource allocation scheme, which can maximize the throughput of self-organ...
